The present vision for the orphanage has been developing over the past several years. Since the earthquake in January, this vision has had a renewed urgency placed on it. There has been a request by Haitian government officials in the past to move the medical clinic out of the guest house. There is an ever increasing interest in teams going to Haiti to help. Some of these teams are Lifeline Orphanage supporters. Many are teams and individuals going to work in outlying areas. There is a great need for housing while people are serving in Haiti.
The vision is to construct a new clinic building in the southeast corner of the Lifeline compound with public access from the street. The initial clinic buiding would be kept rather small but larger than the present facility in the guest house. It would have to have electrical and plumbing mechanics installed below ground and allow for expansion in the future.
The guest house building would than be remodeled into a full guest house/Lifeline Hotel. It would have significantly more sleeping rooms to accommodate guests and larger teams. The hot weather of Haiti has been an issue of discussion and how that relates to a good nights sleep or lack thereof. The Haiti Lifeline Board is researching some options on putting in a central air conditioning system to cool the building. The new power generation system will be designed to accommodate this. This project would likely involve removing and replacing some windows. A usage fee schedule would be created for guests staying at the Lifeline Guesthouse. This would be a new income source for the orphanage.
A $10,000 matching grant has been made available to kick off this project. Every dollar donated will be matched by another dollar up to $10,000. This potential $20,000 will go a long way toward the completion of this project.
